Thank you for reading.
Like any animal shedding its skin, my interests, what’s focused on in my writing, are ever-shifting. Yet another side of me can’t sleep at night if things aren’t structured, so I often reorganize and refine my publication. Evolutions, if you will, towards better content for you all on SUBSTACK, and beyond.
The recent summer has been a time of reflection due to my 1-year birthday on the platform appearing on the horizon (October), and it feels like the right moment to look ahead. Until now, I’ve been content to record whatever popped into my head, but I feel a need to delve into deeper meanings. “Writing with purpose,” I guess I’d call it. I want this space to do more than entertain; I want it to connect, to teach, to transform. To accommodate that, I’ve created a few new sections to clarify this new direction.
1. Endless Satirwells
My SUBSTACK archive will be called “Endless Stairwells,” and house the bulk of my content. The name, I hope, suggests a writer endlessly descending into his own sea of creativity, searching for treasure in the gloom. The content itself won’t change as I’m always experimenting with genre and style — but a year on Substack has revealed recurring themes that I want to explore more deliberately.
2. Campfires
This section was already alluded to being the successor to Lucy’s Journey chain story. The only difference is that each story will stand on its own. That way, authors can jump in without having to trace back through the ever-growing backstory.
Think of it as all of us sitting around a campfire, telling stories to one another. And because sharing should go both ways, I’ll link to your profiles and one piece of your work as part of the exchange. I’m excited to see what new sparks emerge here.
3. History, Retold
I’ve always admired how YouTube channels can bring the past alive. My aim here is to take real events and filter them through a literary lens: stories within stories. Imagine characters living through a plane crash, an earthquake, or other moments where history and humanity collide. Two pieces are already written, with more on the way. I’ll also pair them with nonfiction reflections that explore the events themselves.
So there you have it, writing with purpose. Fiction that teaches, connects, and transforms both the author and reader. Here’s to a year of mining stairwells, gathering at campfires, and retelling the past in new ways. I’m sure what’s found is more valuable, for you and for me.
